Professor Pete Peeling

Pete currently holds a professorial role in the School of Human Sciences at the University of Western Australia. Pete teaches and conducts research in applied physiology, with a focus on performance nutrition and the iron requirements of athletes. In addition to his university role, Pete is the Director of Research at the Western Australian Institute of Sport, where he oversees a research program designed to answer field-driven questions to performance problems. Prior to getting old, Pete held industry roles as an applied sports scientist in the Australian national institute network, where he worked with athletes competing at the Beijing and London Olympic games in sports such as flat-water sprint kayaking, cycling, and field hockey.

Dr  Nikita Fensham

Nikita is a medical doctor, who recently submitted her PhD investigating the impact of common nutrition and training practices on iron metabolism and bone strength indices in athletes. Prior to commencing her PhD, she was a junior doctor in South Africa, practicing in the public healthcare environment. Her keen interest in sports medicine began as a medical student where she completed her final year elective at the Sport Science Institute of South Africa. Concurrently with her PhD, she is also completing her MPhil in Sport and Exercise Medicine. After recently submitting her doctoral thesis, she is returning to clinical medicine to specialise further.

Dr Alannah McKay

Alannah is a postdoctoral research fellow at Australian Catholic University where she examines the health and performance effects of different diet and exercise interventions in athletes. Specifically, Alannah has a keen interest in iron metabolism, and has conducted multiple studies examining dietary and supplemental approaches to preventing and treating iron deficiency in athlete populations. Alannah was named the American College of Sports Medicine’s New Investigator this year for her work on iron metabolism. She has also held previously affiliations with the Australian Institute of Sport and Western Australian Institute of Sport.
