Nutrition and head impact injuries in sport

Explore our lecture on “Nutrition and head impact injuries in sport” with Craig Moore RD. In this session, Craig examines how nutrition may support athletes exposed to concussion and repetitive sub-concussive impacts, while clearly highlighting the limitations of the current evidence base. The lecture explores the pathophysiology of head impact injuries, the potential role of nutrition in supporting acute recovery and long-term brain health, and how practitioners can think critically about interventions such as energy intake, vitamin D, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, creatine, curcumin, and dietary patterns.

What we will cover:
How do concussions differ from repetitive sub-concussive impacts?
Why are head impact injuries concern for short- and long-term health?
What happens physiologically in the brain after a concussion?
What is the evidence for nutrition interventions for head impacts?
How might long-term dietary patterns support athlete brain health?
