SPORT NUTRITION COURSE

Nutrition for running

In this course, you will explore the science underpinning nutrition for running, as well as practical solutions to fuelling running events such as marathon and ultra-running.

To set the scene, Asker Jeukendrup outlines the fundamental science of fuel use and fuel availability during exercise, with considerations for strategies to improve running performance. Lewis James and Nidia Rodriguez then explore the role of hydration for running, including strategies to improve hydration status.

Asker then discusses nutrition for a marathon, where he describes key steps to build a marathon nutrition plan. There have also been many advances in nutrition for a marathon, including the potential ergogenic effects of caffeine and ketones. Asker discusses the evidence for these new nutritional strategies. In the final section of the course, Asker, Emily Russel and Nick Tiller discuss nutrition for ultra-running. With the popularity of ultra-running booming, there are many new strategies improving performance. This section provides guidance from what we know from the science and what we know from the field.
