Nutrition supplements: The development of the AIS supplement framework
Explore our lecture on “Nutrition supplements” with Dr Greg Shaw. This session provides a practical overview of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Sports Supplement Framework, explaining how supplements are classified according to the strength of evidence, potential value for performance, and level of risk. Designed for practitioners working in applied sport, the lecture helps translate the framework into clearer, more evidence-based supplement decision-making for athletes.
What we will cover:
What is the AIS Sports Supplement Framework?
Which supplements fall into each category of the AIS?
How should practitioners apply the framework to decisions?
What are the strengths and limitations of classification systems?
How does the framework handle new supplements and evidence?
